WTF?! Basic Acronyms You Should Know Going into a Digital Marketing Career!

 30th Jan 2019

The digital marketing sector is one of the biggest graduate employers because their fresh-out-of-university schemes tend not to require a specific marketing degree. From business to languages to journalism and more, plenty of graduates from a variety of disciplines end up thriving in the digital marketing industry.

In our second blog post of our WTF?! series, we’re tackling the complex digital marketing acronyms that you’ll need to have covered before your interview – or your first day on the job.

Key Performance Indicator – Key performance indicators are the metrics used to measure success in a marketing campaign. A KPI helps marketing teams determine whether they have reached their goals – for example, page views can be used as a KPI.

Click Through Rate – If you’ve got an ad set up on a website, you’ll need to monitor its click-through rate. This is the number of clicks an ad receives divided by the number of times your ad has been seen. CTR can be used as a KPI.

Call To Action – A call to action is an instruction or request to customers or clients found in all facets of marketing including content marketing and basic website ads. Examples include “Learn more”, “Click here”, and “Watch now”.

Search Engine Result Page – Relevant to those who specialise in SEO marketing (see below for more info!), a search engine result page is pretty self-explanatory. Think of the Google search engine result page that comes up when you search for your favourite graduate employment coach, Graft – that’s it!

Search Engine Optimisation – Search engine optimisation is the act of ensuring a website organically climbs the SERP. By implementing targeted keywords or writing relevant, quality content on a regular basis, you’re optimising your position in the search engine – the higher, the better.
