Graduate Data Engineer / Developer - Scale Up

Our client is looking to bring people into roles that are focused on helping clients solve operational problems using data and analytics.

They’re building a new analytics team that covers the full spectrum of data and analytics capabilities – Business understanding and value generation; data mining, cleaning and engineering, data exploration, feature engineering and modelling (DS), visualisation and development of solutions for business application (software dev).

You will be part of a wider analytics team and perform a range of tasks across the ‘Data Science Stack’ - this includes software development, visualisation and environments.

As part of a small, but growing team, our client is looking for people with a genuine can-do attitude and entrepreneurial spirit, willing to get stuck into a bit of everything and step up when required will succeed.

Based in Leeds city centre, with occasional travel to client sites.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Dealing with ambiguity is a critical part of the job, as well as helping the client and internal team focus on specific problem statements and use cases
  • Software engineering
  • Working with a range of big data tools and recognised industry standard approaches
  • Working with multiple data feeds
  • Assessing and presenting development and software options to our clients and internal teams
  • Creating environments and structures to handle real time data streaming and analytics
  • Producing clear and concise documentation, such as High Level Designs, requirements, etc
  • Ability to translate data outputs into usable ‘tools’ and reports
  • Ability to work with cloud-based data tools such as Lambda, AWS serverless, etc.
  • National/International travel may be required 
  • May perform other duties as assigned 

Projects vary from pure-play BI and simple analytics through to complex operational problem solving and deep data science (e.g. machine learning). Clients ranging from partnerships with software vendors (building a logic layer on top of existing software) through to national organisations running huge operations.

Experience Required:

  • Degree in STEM
  • Experience of programming in one or more language i.e. Python/Java/C++
  • Understanding of statistical models and approaches
  • Some basic exposure to tools and languages such as JavaScript, CSS html, .NET enterprise experience
  • Understanding of usages of NoSQL databases and when to apply them
  • You'll have an interest in learning new technologies and experimenting with new languages / tooling
  • Experience in visualisation tooling is beneficial (not essential)
  • A Populated GitHub is a massive plus
