Graduate Design Engineer - Electrical Machines

Graft are delighted to be recruiting for an engineering position here in Leeds main duties will include Production of electrical and mechanical designs and working drawings from specifications. Attending meetings, both in house and external. Ability to operate within company guidelines and procedures.


To create new designs and drawings based on a series of design rules and modify existing designs and drawings. Experience in Solid Works would be beneficial.  Experience of electrical and/or mechanical design of rotating machines would be beneficial, preferably exciter rotors and stators, permanent magnet generators and small alternators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creating new designs based on a series of design rules
  • Production of working designs and drawings from specifications
  • Modifying existing drawings
  • Attending both in-house and external meetings
  • To operate within company guidelines and procedures
  • Determining the optimal design for each tender or contract.
  • Liaising with external departments including Sales, Production, Quality, Test and Purchasing.
  • Constructing and modifying BOM’s (Bill of Materials) and releasing the appropriate design information to other departments.
  • Interpreting and discussion technical specifications with the General Manager and others.
  • Working to deadlines in a professional manner.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

  • Degree or Tertiary Qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or similar (relevant experience would be accepted)
  • Solid Works or similar 3D CAD system
  • Use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, and a high level of attention to detail are essential
  • The ability to work to targets as part of a small team
