Graduate Electrical Design Engineer

You will be working within the Rotating Machines division of leading manufacturer, servicing and maintenance of electrical power transformers and distribution transformers in the UK. The team specialises in the design and manufacture of Permanent Magnet Generators, Excitation machines, rewinds and repairs, bespoke alternators and generators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To create new electrical designs based on a series of existing design rules. Desirably the candidate will have experience in designing and developing rotating electrical machines.
  • Ability to operate within company guidelines and procedures.
  • You will also possess strong interpersonal/communication skills for effective liaison within all aspects of the business internally and externally.
  • In future months there is scope for training to be provided for the Transformer side of the business.

The Person: 

  • A strong team player with a can do attitude is a must.
  • Degree or Tertiary Qualification in Electrical Engineering 
  • Strong Microsoft Office experience, particularly Excel and VBA programming.
  • Ability to read Engineering Drawings (Solidworks & Autocad) 
  • The ability to work to targets as part of a small team 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, and a high level of attention to detail are essential 
  • Desirable candidates will have electrical engineering knowledge, specifically basic AC and DC theory, magnetic circuits, electrical design, motors, generators and transformers. 

Key Responsibilities (Rotating Machines):

  • Reporting to the Electrical design Manager
  • Creating new electrical designs based on a series of design rules
  • To operate within company guidelines and procedures
  • Attending both in-house and external meetings
  • Assisting the sales team in costing and preparing quotations for customers. 
  • Direct involvement in providing support and technical knowledge where required. 
  • Liaising with external departments including Sales, Production, Quality, Test and Purchasing

Key Responsibilities (Transformers):

  • The generation of both tender and contract transformer designs. 
  • To meet the requirements for tender/contract design data in accordance with the agreed due dates.
  • Liaison with external customers and other departments as necessary.
  • Ensuring that procedures and processes are properly reviewed and worked to.
  • The continual improvement of quality and environmental standards.
  • Cooperate and coordinate with production and quality teams to resolve issues and improve design quality.
  • Continuous development of design processes and procedures.
  • The maintenance of housekeeping standards dictated by the company.
  • The proper utilisation and maintenance of all equipment provided for his/her use.
  • Analysis of Quality Alerts, actioned appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Contribution to companywide Transformer Engineering and Manufacturing initiatives.
  • To ensure the requirements of new technology are assessed and effectively utilised.
  • To participate and monitor developments in National/International specifications.
