PMO Lead - Leeds - Up to £35K

Our client is a dynamic, technology-driven, and highly productive company who have big plans regarding the products and services they will be providing to their customer in the upcoming months and years and the role of the PMO Lead is fundamental in these future plans.

The PMO Lead will be key to ensure the company develops and implements industry leading best practices to enable the successful delivery of programmes of works to key stakeholders across the business. The role will comprise of all the activities you would expect to see in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial digital environment where an Agile culture is well-established, primarily built upon Kanban.

The PMO has overall responsibility for the provision of a range of management functions that support the Delivery teams to provide high quality, consistent services across the company that will improve business agility and responsiveness to change, drive efficiency and service enhancement and ensure compliance in a rapidly changing and complex technical environment.

Improving Product Management

A few years ago, we talked solely about projects. Today, we talk about products and feature roadmaps. The next stage for us is to begin thinking more consistently about outcomes, truly understand our customers, and get better at deciding our priorities based on data and feedback.

As PMO Lead, you will be closely involved with our COO in creating the right environment for these discussions and adjusting our processes and reporting to support them

Supporting our engineering culture change

You will also have a solid understanding of agile development and lean methods. You will know what metrics truly matter to help us measure improvement and ensure that these are tracked and acted on within the team. You will work directly with the COO to develop a change programme to lead the team through a structured discussion on the type of Delivery function we need to become, and help build and run the change plan to achieve this.

In this role, you will have a great opportunity to help us shape both how we manage our delivery plans and how our Delivery team works. You will help us to improve, over time, how to make good decisions quickly and with just enough process to guide us and how to deliver on those decisions well.  

WHAT OUR PMO ISN’T

Our PMO is less concerned with policing delivery of projects within our teams and more about product management, portfolio management and data-driven decision making. Good delivery discipline remains important to us, but is something we hold teams accountable for through their line management.

We can see that in other, bigger, organisations the need for centralising the management of these things makes a lot of sense. As a smaller firm, we’ve less need for that style of PMO, but we care a lot about spending our change budget well and doing the right things to continually improve how we deliver – that is what our PMO is all about.

The principle accountabilities of this role are; 

  • Ensuring roadmaps and delivery plans are maintained and shared
  • Collecting the metrics, we need to manage delivery and report on effectiveness
  • Successfully completing the process of transforming how the company thinks about product and project management and delivers roadmaps.
  • Providing business & project support, including financial and progress reporting 
  • Setting up and leading Governance and assurance of technology project deliverables
  • Assure and govern business wide processes, ensuring appropriate methods and controls are in place to deliver quality services. 
  • First point of contact for internal and external audits relating to technology project governance
  • Manage the cross-technology programme status reporting including RAID and escalations across Business Functions
  • Develop & mature the PMO function to support and assure successful delivery 
  • Challenging assumptions, highlighting inconsistencies & driving improvement actions
  • Create and manage the risk framework, ensuring risks are identified and managed. 
  • Support of onboarding processes for technology resources
  • Developing Launch Plans and ensuring Products are ready to go-live
  • Producing, maintaining and tracking Delivery plans, capturing all interdependencies and critical milestones and analysing of impact of slippage on critical path delivery.
  • Define standards & procedures across the technology programme including Lessons learnt, Demand processes, Remedial plans, and continuous improvement plans
    Define and document technology processes, meetings, project set up/close down, reporting, resource management, planning
  • Strategic Engagement and Communications
  • Building and executing technology engagement and communications plan to ensure that key stakeholders are in sync with the project status.

What we’re looking for: 

  • Proven experience in a programme or project related field, i.e. as programme management analyst or project management analyst 
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a similar programme and project environment within a technology organisation 
  • Competent in using Microsoft suite of tools
  • Able to maximise the potential of reporting tools (Jira, Git Lab Premium)
  • Experience of using a PPM toolset to manage plans, resources, risks and issues 
  • P30, PRINCE 2 or PMP certification or experience 
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high pressure technology organisation
  • Exceptional organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise across multiple conflicting project demands. 
  • Strong communication both written and verbal and collaboration skills – ability to work effectively across internal and external teams 
  • Ability to challenge and influence team members to drive improvements
  • Resilient and able to challenge and influence senior managers effectively
