Are you a hands-on Quality/IT Test Manager looking for the opportunity to perform both strategic and tactical work within a dynamic tech driven company?

The ideal candidate will lead quality and testing efforts across legacy and digital applications, working closely with multi-disciplined delivery teams to ensure product and software quality.

As a Hands on and senior member of the team you will be looked upon as an expert, someone who will help to select and develop the approach to test our software.  Being the leader of the of the close-knit testing team you will also be working closely with our development team and in our highly collaborative environment; good communication, attention to detail and leadership are key for this role.  You will help to provide support, knowledge, and guidance to other team members and help bring any new junior team members up to speed with QA and Test best practises.

You will own the QA and Test function which includes scheduling, coordinating the management of testing for releases across multiple applications and digital platforms.  The role will be responsible for implementing and managing release processes for features that track through development, test, and into a production state.  Leading on defining the IT strategic direction for regression coverage, testing tools and CI /CD to ensure quality of software is a key expectation.

For QA you will be responsible for making sure that our hardware and software releases are stable, perform well, and work for users in their respective live environments.  As a result, you'll gain an in-depth knowledge of the current product range and future product developments, in addition to how they interact with other equipment that will enable you to find, understand and verify any issues before they hit our users. 

You need to be a confident and experienced Manual and Automation Tester, who can clearly explain and demonstrate experience of key QA and Test fundamentals, and someone who continuously looks for optimisations and efficiency improvements across the QA and Test function – alongside the  wider Delivery teams.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages all QA and Test activities on the company’s software suite, through the full project lifecycle.  This includes development of test strategies and plans, data requirements for testing risks and mitigation of these
  • Coordinate release content and effort across the appropriate teams using techniques and approaches pertinent to the size of the deployment and in a structured and transparent way
  • Work with Delivery Management Teams to conduct reviews against acceptance criteria; including business and operational readiness, test validation, and Go/No-Go decisions
  • Monitor progress to ensure releases are delivered on time and within budget, and that they meet their stated quality criteria
  • Transparent reporting of status and metrics
  • Manages and co-ordinates testing efforts across the company’s solution stack
  • Works with in-house project delivery teams and third-party providers
  • Develops and manages test plans, test cycles, test schedules and test reporting
  • Is responsible for ensuring that individual Test Evaluation Summary documents are created and will develop a consolidated test Evaluation Summary for the entire testing effort
  • Manages test resource requirements and drives strong team performance to meet project and client requirements
  • Work with partners and internal teams to understand impacts of code branch approaches and resolve build problems and merge conflicts
  • Develop scripts and lead automation to build, integrate, and deploy software releases to various platforms; ensuring release train to support regular deployments of new features to digital channels
  • Communicate all key release plans, commitments, and changes including requirements, QA plans, schedule, and scope changes
    Participate in Design Authority meetings to understand the impact of such changes on upcoming releases
  • Maintain a release repository and manage key information such as build and release procedures, dependencies, and plans
  • In addition to the elements in this job description, this role also includes such other duties as the management may from time to time reasonably require.  

Key Skills

  • Previous experience as an IT Test Manager in a client-facing capacity (e.g. having worked for a software vendor, software consultancy or solution provider)
  • Must have introduced a testing framework to a business while continuously reviewing and evolving testing strategies
  • Demonstrable experience of working across all test phases including non-functional 
  • In-depth knowledge of all test methodologies, industry best practice & tooling and experience of optimal implementation of these within an organisation
  • Proven experience of CI/CD tools and frameworks (e.g. Azure DevOps)
  • Exceptional test management and leadership skills
  • Experience of line management – including performance and development management where regular 1:1’s are conducted and skills and capabilities are tracked and enhanced
  • Strong RBT assessment skills
  • Automation testing experience - using languages such as JavaScript or Python or similar languages 
  • Experience with Selenium or Specflow and BDD with Gherkin or Cucumber 
  • Experience in using SQL or other similar Database management systems 
  • Hands on experience with web application testing on both front and back end 
  • Excellent stakeholder and communication skills
  • Effective risk / issue & dependency management
  • Expertise for delivery of high-quality client solutions across applications, including systems integration
  • Experience of managing multiple, disparate test teams
  • Experience of test cycle planning, test execution, results reporting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interface with all levels of internal and client project teams
  • Familiar with project delivery methods, both agile and waterfall, including project scheduling, risk management, estimation, Work Breakdown Structures, requirements management / traceability, Change Management, etc.
  • Test Management certification (e.g. ISEB Test Foundation/Intermediate Certification).
  • Deep technical understanding of testing, quality assurance and release management gained through experience of leading a test and quality team on a large programme.
  • Confirmed skills in aligning IT with organisational drivers.
  • Extensive experience in resource and workload management.
  • Experience in budget control.
  • Industry awareness to identify improvement opportunities and implement them across the services and processes incorporated within the domain.
  • Validated ability to develop a detailed understanding of the business function relating to the system under change and the stakeholders’ risk appetite, in order to articulate the appropriate design for test environments and data driven from test objectives and the test strategy.
