Senior Front-End Engineer

We are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate JavaScript and web engineer with 3+ years of industry experience to join our client’s product development team.

Named as Leeds Start-up of the Year (2018), and one of the Top 10 British AI companies to watch by Business Insider, our client is an intelligent online training platform that helps organisations deliver personalised, effective and engaging training. Their clients span multiple continents, ranging from multinationals, Universities and exciting SMEs.

Career progression toward VP of Engineering in this fast-growing start-up is on the table for the successful candidate should they excel in their roles and responsibilities.


Duties

This list is not exhaustive but provides an overview of the job. The successful candidate will receive one-to-one training for each aspect of their role:

  • Become familiar with the platform from a user’s perspective
  • Work directly with the CTO to evaluate how the front-end codebase is aligned to fit our product roadmap
  • Develop a deep understanding of the technology stack
  • Write reusable and testable components
  • Explore and own all areas of the front-end codebase to suggest improvements for easing maintainability and preparing for scalability
  • Take a lead on reducing technical debt where possible
  • Take a lead on building a solid testing strategy for our Ember.js web-app
  • Mentor the junior developers through pairing, planned training sessions, PR code-reviews and ad-hoc advice
  • Build an awareness of the technical infrastructure to be involved in strategic discussions around scale and stability

Required skills that will be assessed at the interview stage:

  • JavaScript / Typescript
  • HTML += dynamic templates such as Handlebars
  • CSS / any pre-processor language + practice with modular, namespaced or component-scoped styling
  • Any MVC framework such as Ember.js, Angular, Vue.js or React
  • Networking, data management
  • Testing strategies
  • Software design principles
  • GraphQL
  • Git
  • Web security
  • Web app deployment flow such as building, tree-shaking and release artifacts
  • Working within an agile sprint process
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas
